A message from our President, General Lord Guthrie of Craigiebank

'I am delighted to be associated with the work of the Polish Heritage Society and very honoured to serve as its President. The Society's work highlights the enormous contribution which generations of Poles have made to their adopted country. Preserving and celebrating that heritage will only further strengthen the ties between Poland and the United Kingdom.

I worked closely with the Society on the project to build a memorial to the Polish Forces at the National Memorial Arboretum and saw at first hand the energy and dedication of those involved.

I encourage you to explore this website and learn about the many other projects the Society has sponsored. Do please contact us if you would like to be involved in any way'.

Chinese virtuoso Lang Lang lays flowers at new Chopin statue at London’s Royal Festival Hall

Lang-Lang-Southbank-22052011Chinese pianist Lang Lang laid flowers at the newly-unveiled statue of Fryderyk Chopin, on Sunday 22nd May, outside London’s Royal Festival Hall at the Southbank Centre to pay his respects to the Polish composer he describes as the “perfect balance between romantic and classic”.

The statue, a gift of the Polish people to the British nation for its help in fighting Nazi tyranny and originally erected on this site in 1975, was restored by the Polish Heritage Society and unveiled on 18th May 2011 by HRH the Duke of Gloucester in the presence of The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to the United Kingdom, Her Excellency Ms Barbara Tuge-Erecińska.

“Chopin is one of the greatest composers; he brings much beautiful music to the world. His music is very universal, so that even people who don’t usually like classical music like Chopin,” Lang Lang said.

“I play his music a lot as I’m always trying to reach young audiences and Chopin is the perfect composer for that. And Chopin represents the perfect balance between romantic and classic. But frankly speaking, I find Chopin very difficult to talk about because he is all about feelings, about instinct.”
